When PNG is the right format
PNG stores images losslessly, so nothing degrades when the file is saved and re-saved. That matters for graphics you’ll keep editing, images heading into a design tool, logos placed over coloured backgrounds, and any workflow where a system specifically requires PNG uploads.
An honest limitation
Converting JPG to PNG cannot recover detail that JPG compression already discarded — the PNG is a lossless copy of an already-lossy image. It will not look sharper than the JPG, and the file will usually be considerably larger. What you gain is a format that won’t degrade further with each subsequent save.
Transparency
PNG supports transparency but a JPG has none to carry over, so the converted image has a solid background. To actually remove a background you need an editor — this tool changes format, not content.
Private by architecture
Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Zero bytes are uploaded — no server ever receives your images.
