Why iPhone photos won't open on other devices

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC — a modern format that stores the same photo at roughly half the file size. Excellent on Apple devices, frequently unusable everywhere else: Windows may need a paid codec, many web forms reject the extension outright, and plenty of Android apps and older software simply see an unsupported file.

JPG opens everywhere

Converting to JPG makes the photo readable on any device, in any browser, and acceptable to every upload form. Image quality is preserved at High settings — the visible photo is identical for practical purposes.

Convert a whole camera roll batch

Transferred a folder of photos from an iPhone? Add them all at once. Each becomes a JPG and the set downloads as one ZIP. Any file that can’t be decoded is skipped and counted rather than breaking the batch.

Private by architecture

Personal photos deserve better than a stranger’s upload queue. PDFBison decodes and converts entirely inside your browser — zero bytes are uploaded, and nothing is stored anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert HEIC to JPG for free?
Drop your .heic files into the tool above, choose a quality level, and press Convert. A single photo downloads as a JPG; multiple photos arrive together in one ZIP.
Why can't Windows or Android open my iPhone photos?
iPhones save in HEIC format, which many systems don't support natively — Windows often requires an extra codec and many web forms reject the file type. Converting to JPG removes the problem permanently.
Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce photo quality?
At High quality the difference is not visible in normal viewing. JPG is a lossy format, so the file is re-encoded — but the resulting photo looks the same while being universally compatible.
Can I convert several iPhone photos at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like — they convert in sequence and download together as a single ZIP, with no daily limits.
Why is my converted file larger than the HEIC original?
HEIC is a more efficient format, so the same photo as JPG is often bigger. Choose Small file quality, or use our Compress Image tool to hit a specific size limit.
Is it safe to convert personal photos here?
Yes — your photos are never uploaded. Decoding and conversion happen entirely in your browser on your own device.
